June in Aix-en-Provence: the ideal month for your second home
Before the July crowds arrive, June offers Aix a unique light and gentleness. Free festivals, art gardens, seasonal markets — here is how to make the most of your Provençal second home before high season.
June is the Pays d'Aix's best-kept secret. Temperatures reach 25 to 28°C, evenings are long and gentle, and the city has not yet tipped into the bustle of high season. It is the ideal month to return to your Provençal second home — and to truly enjoy it, without the pressures of July.
"Aix en juin": the free musical celebration before the Festival
From 12 to 30 June 2026, the city transforms into an open-air stage. "Aix en juin" is the free, open-to-all prelude to the Festival d'Art Lyrique: concerts by young Académie artists, recitals on the Place des Prêcheurs, and encounters with artists in the streets and gardens of the historic centre. On 29 June, Parade[s] closes the cycle with a grand lyric gathering on the Cours Mirabeau at 9:45pm — no ticket, no queue, just classical music in the Provençal night.
For those who appreciate music without the constraints of the July festival, this is a rare window.

Les Flâneries d'Art Contemporain: private gardens open to all
On 20 and 21 June, Aix marks the 20th edition of the Flâneries d'Art Contemporain. Property owners and institutions open their gardens to the public, hosting works by contemporary artists displayed beneath plane trees and olive trees. A rare opportunity to enter private spaces that open only once a year, and to understand why the Pays d'Aix has drawn art and heritage enthusiasts for generations.
The art of living: markets, terraces, pool at the right temperature
In June in Aix-en-Provence, the Cours Mirabeau markets remain pleasantly manageable. Stalls overflow with Burlat cherries, early apricots, and the first beefsteak tomatoes. Restaurant terraces fill with ease, without the need to book weeks in advance. And the pool at your residence — finally — reaches a comfortable temperature without the scorching heat of August.
The long evenings, with daylight stretching past 9:30pm, offer that quintessentially Provençal luxury: dining outdoors in your own home, in complete comfort.
June: the best window for welcoming guests
July and August draw the tourist flows: roads congest, tradespeople become difficult to reach, and every good restaurant is fully booked. June allows you to welcome family or close friends to your residence without logistical constraints — maintenance work arranged within 24 hours if needed, a table at the restaurant of your choice the same evening, a city that still breathes at its own rhythm.
It is also the ideal moment to prepare the residence ahead of high season: final technical checks, refreshed household linen, outdoor spaces restored. Arriving in June means arriving in a home that is ready — and leaving with peace of mind for July.
